Welcome

Located in the Franciscan Woods residential neighborhood of Sacramento, the Center offers a peaceful setting for both meditation and the social activities of the Center. From the beginning in 1971 as a meditation group meeting at the home of devotees, the Center has grown steadily over the years into an active spiritual community. Services are conducted by Center volunteers approved by the Self-Realization Fellowship Mother Center. Self-Realization Fellowship renunciants visit the Center during the holiday season and several other times during the year. The Center bookroom is open Sundays at noon and carries a complete selection of the writings and recordings of Paramahansa Yogananda as published by Self-Realization Fellowship.

For Families

Families and children of all ages are welcome at the Center, and family activities are held throughout the year. Weekly Self-Realization Fellowship programs for young people present the value of meditation and spiritual life skills at the level of their needs and engage their interest with fun and warmth in a carefully designed learning environment. At this time, we offer classes for ages 4 to 8 on the first and third Sundays of the month. We also have an active teen group for ages 13 and up which meets on the first and third Sunday of the month either in the Social Hall or, when the weather is fine, outdoors. Please inquire of an usher or greeter when you arrive as to the location. Both these programs recess during August. For those attending our services with infants or toddlers, we have a family area with a closed-circuit video system so you can enjoy the service. This is located through the first door to your right as you enter the Center and then to your left.

Monastic Visits

Monks and nuns of the Self-Realization Fellowship monastic Order visit the Center every two to three months during the year. Whenever possible, we attempt to accurately place these on the Quarterly Events Calendar and the Yearly Calendar. We are happily surprised sometimes with unexpected visits! In these cases, we will contact those on our mailing list with a card, and, send out an email to those we have email addresses for. If you would like to be added to our email list, send us a message or, if you are at the Center you are welcome to fill out a blue address card at the free literature display, located to your right as you enter the Center. Volunteer!

The Sacramento Center is self-supporting and all of the wide range of duties the Center calls for are performed by volunteers. Serving at the Center is an opportunity to make new friends as well as to experience the inner satisfaction that comes from helping others. Whether you have a little time to offer or your schedule allows for more, all help and assistance is needed and appreciated. You are welcome to look over the 20+ committees that the Center currently has to see what might appeal to you. You can simply help out during one of our Days of Service. Days of Service are listed on both the Quarterly Events and Annual Calendar. There is usually a short opening meditation, work (of all different kinds depending on the season), and a vegetarian lunch.
